Here’s some more show coverage from out west by my man Martin Corona. He attends the best shows on the left coast and sure knows how to capture everything that goes on. So without beating around the bush, here’s his story from the weekend!

Well its me, Martin, the man behind the lens. I figured it was time for me to do my own write-up for the show coverage I take. So, let’s see if I can do this correctly…

This was my first year at Summer Madness and I enjoyed every moment of it… other than the 100+ degree temps during the day! But luckily the location of the run was at the Kern County Fairgrounds and there were plenty of trees around so shade was available. Most every camp had inflatable pools and their coolers packed full off ice and cold beer which gave a little bit of comfort from the heat. It cooled off at night, just enough for the partying to get going. On Saturday night, it definitely seemed like everyone was itching for the sun to go down.

Veritas was kind enough to bring their structurally sound stripper pole for the ladies of the night to unwind on, and they did not disappoint! Later on in the night, Roulette of Madhouse FX hosted a “Hot Chick” contest which was pretty impressive in itself. Throughout the weekend, once the sun was setting, a good majority of minitruckers hopped in their rides, packed their beds full of any willing bodies, and cruised around the campground just to have a good time.

Sunday started out a little somber, but nonetheless summed up the entire weekend into the one thing everyone should live by: enjoy every moment you have with the people around you! The hosts of the show, which were Regulators and Rolling on Thunder Vans, paid respect and took some time to share their thoughts/memories of Cherokee. He was one of the original founding members of Summer Madness. We also paid respect to our brother Big Jim who was a great friend to all of the Sunset members and the minitruck community in SoCal.

The one memorial that more than likely caught the attention of all who were in attendance was for Courtney Halowell. He touched the lives of nearly every custom car enthusiast in the country, if not the world. In a sense, that weekend was a celebration of all the lives of those who we’ll always remember. Summer Madness will continue to be an event that every minitrucker should attend at least once in their life. At the end of it all, it was a great run full of great memories.

The show was this past Saturday (May 21, 2011) and was held at Cutler Park in beautiful Visalia, CA. Of course I was not at this show, but Martin did work and got some great coverage again! From the coverage I’ve seen, I can tell this was the perfect location for a show. Tons of sick minis, fullsizes, and cars were in attendance under the shaded trees on a bright and sunny day. How perfect! I know all us Midwesters and East Coasters love seeing photos from these shows because it’s rare that we actually get to see them in person. Although I hope that changes next year. I know some west coast shows are in my future! Anyways, I’ll stop rambling. On with the coverage already!

If you love our show coverage, please share it on Facebook, Twitter, and any other truck forum/website you can think of. Also, leave a comment at the bottom of any of the show coverage pages with your thoughts on this year’s Down to Earth Day show. Martin and I would really appreciate it!

Be on the lookout for us at a few more mini truck shows this year, and tons more in the future. I’d also recommending signing up for FREE email updates. Relaxing in SoCal 2011 Show Coverage

Written by : Posted on May 3, 2011 : 1 Comment

(To see all of the Relaxing in SoCal show coverage, scroll past the article to see the first set of photos. Then use the navigation links after those to see the rest. A big thanks goes out to Martin Corona for covering this show for us. Expect to see a lot more from west coast show coverage from him on this site!)

May 1, 2011 marked the 5th annual Relaxing in SoCal show in Torrance, California. It was held at Alpine Electronics and the weather seemed to be perfect. Everything from trucks, cars, suvs, hot rods, lowriders, and more were in attendance this year. The show was presented by Toyo Tires, Alpine, Kinetik, and Roccos’s Old School Tattoo Balm. Plus there were tons of sponsors like AccuAir, Pacific Coast Customs, Tre5 Customs, and so many more.

Although it was only a one day show, Relaxed Atmosphere really knows how to attract a large turnout with some amazing quality. What’s better than all these sick rides? Proceeds from the show are going towards a Japan relief fund to help those who lost everything in the recent disasters. Shows like these are what keeps the scene going in the right direction!

For those interested in awards, there were some awesome Top 50 trophies as well as over a dozen custom Best Of trophies. If you want some of the baddest custom awards, this is the show to attend! There was even a set of Toyo tires being raffled off to one lucky winner.

Thanks again to Martin Corona for sending me all this great coverage. You’ll be able to spot him at some upcoming shows decked out in Mini Truck Scene gear. And as the show fast approaches next spring, don’t forget to check out www.rasocal.com for all the details.
